Position Summary

The Floor Care Specialist (Floor Crew) performs specialized hard-floor and carpet care in commercial facilities. You will operate professional floor equipment (auto-scrubbers, buffers, burnishers, extractors), restore and maintain VCT, vinyl, tile, concrete, and other commercial surfaces, and support NWQC’s hybrid model—working alongside mapped autonomous floor robots by handling edge work, restorative projects, stairwells, and areas robots do not cover. Shifts are commonly after-hours so client spaces are ready for open.

Essential Duties

  • Perform hard-floor care including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, sealing, waxing, buffing, burnishing, polishing, and refinishing on VCT, sheet vinyl, ceramic tile, concrete, and other commercial flooring
  • Complete carpet care including vacuuming, spotting, extraction, and deep cleaning using approved methods and equipment
  • Safely operate commercial floor equipment: auto-scrubbers, high-speed buffers, burnishers, carpet extractors, wet vacuums, and related machines
  • Mix, dilute, and apply floor finishes, strippers, and cleaning chemicals per manufacturer SDS and NWQC procedures
  • Post wet-floor signs and set safety barriers before and during work; leave areas safe for occupants and other trades
  • Perform edge work, baseboards/cove base, stairwells, elevators, and other areas outside mapped robot routes
  • Support or coordinate with autonomous floor-care programs (e.g., clearing obstacles, noting route issues, completing restorative work robots cannot perform)
  • Inspect floors before and after service; complete floor-care logs, checklists, and quality documentation
  • Clean and perform routine maintenance on floor equipment; report malfunctions promptly
  • Transport equipment and supplies; monitor chemical and pad inventory and report needs
  • Report facility hazards, damage, or repair needs to the supervisor
  • Follow all OSHA, chemical-safety, infection-prevention (as applicable), and client site rules, including PPE
  • Communicate professionally with supervisors, teammates, and client contacts; complete assigned specialty projects
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications / Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 1 year commercial floor care or specialty janitorial experience preferred (training available for strong candidates with related equipment experience)
  • Demonstrated ability—or clear aptitude—to operate commercial floor machines safely
  • Ability to read and follow chemical labels, SDS, and written work instructions
  • Understanding of basic OSHA/SDS chemical safety and willingness to use required PPE
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet quality standards under time constraints
  • Reliable attendance; flexibility for evenings, overnights, weekends, and occasional holidays as client schedules require
  • Must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States
  • Ability to pass a background check (and site-specific screening where required, e.g., healthcare or aviation)
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred (required if assigned to drive a company vehicle or multi-site routes)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1½+ years stripping, waxing, buffing, and burnishing with minimal assistance
  • Experience in healthcare, retail, industrial, hospitality, airport, or large-facility environments
  • Knowledge of multiple floor types and restorative techniques
  • ISSA/CMI floor care or cleaning technician certification, or similar industry training
  • Experience working around or supporting autonomous/robotic floor scrubbers
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged standing and walking (up to a full shift)
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, pushing, and pulling
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 35–50 lbs regularly; occasional heavier loads with assistance or equipment
  • Close, distance, and peripheral vision sufficient to operate equipment and inspect finished floors
  • Comfortable working with cleaning chemicals, noise from machines, and occasional outdoor/loading-dock exposure
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions

Schedule / Shift

Commercial floor care is typically after-hours (2nd/3rd shift), including evenings, overnights, and weekends depending on the account. Full-time, part-time, and project-based schedules may be available. Exact hours vary by facility—discuss preferred availability when you apply.
